Spring/Summer Softball Notes
We're finally ready to head outdoors for some softball on real grass! It all starts next Tuesday, April 26th, weather permitting, so here are a couple of organizational points to keep in mind...and a traffic alert:
First, we'll start play next week with a couple days of pick-up games while we get reacquainted and meet our new players. We'll get going with some batting practice (5 swings each...if you need MORE, go to a batting cage this weekend!) at about 9:15 or 9:30 am. We'll have charts at the ballpark where you can check out which of the three fields we'd like you to play on.
Remember to check the Weather Stone if the weather is threatening on the website www.mnseniorsoftball.com ! We will NOT cancel games just because it's cool ... it takes REAL weather to keep West Metro off the fields. We'll send out email alerts as needed if rain is threatening...we'll try to have decisions and communications out by 7 a.m. each day if the weather is threatening ... earlier when possible! If you'll be traveling from any distance, you may want to sign up for Ron's text message alerts...if you haven't received a "Test Alert" from Ron, you're not on the list! Send an email reply to this note with your mobile number if you want to be on this list!
Next, starting at about 10:00 a.m., we'll play a couple of 7 inning games on each field...
Then, we'll have our first picnic of the season! Ron W and Ron T will have the grub...we'll fire up the grill, Beer Man and Soda Jerk will be in business ($1.00 per beer, $.50 per soda) and we'll really get acquainted after the long winter season! Mike Borrell and LaVern Hericks have volunteered to cook on Thursday next week and we'll have the sign-up sheet at the park so you and a partner or two can sign up to get your turn at providing the picnic this summer. (NEW PLAYERS ... there's no extra charge for the lunch...you'll get to take your turn buying too!)
The following week, we'll announce our teams for the first session and see who's got the moxie to take the pennant...more on the teams and this year's schedule in a few days!
Now, the traffic: construction is in full swing on Highway 100 and it's having its affect on all the surrounding routes...currently, traffic is down to 2-lanes both ways on 100. There is NO WESTBOUND exit from 100 on to Hwy7... and there will be other closures occasionally. There are other construction projects going on all around town, so allow extra time to get to the park this year! And remember...it gets even worse next year when they tear up Hwy 169!
There's a link to maps on the league website at: Field Locations. If you go to the Van Valkenburg map, you can plot your route via google maps!
If you have other questions, you can respond to this email or call Ron W at 612-418-7077.
See you at the park on Tuesday!
